Conditions worth knowing

• Single-wide mobile or manufactured homes only.
• Home must currently heat with propane, oil or kerosene — natural gas or baseboard heat disqualifies it.
• Income eligibility: a verified MaineCare, HEAP, SNAP or TANF recipient, or household income at or below 80% of the county median.
• The home must be in a designated town. The list reflects areas with suitable outdoor temperatures and contractor coverage, and homes elsewhere are not eligible at this time.
• The furnace closet must be at least 18 inches wide to fit the system.
• The existing heating system must be removed, since the ducted heat pump occupies the utility closet.
• Projects must be pre-approved by Efficiency Maine before work begins.
• The homeowner must contribute: $1,000 up front, or finance the required contribution.
• A free assessment decides suitability. If the home fails on heat loss, underbelly damage or ductwork, insulation rebates of up to $8,000 are available first.
