Conditions worth knowing

• This is the income-based version of the standard heat pump rebate, and the gap is large: up to $16,000 for air source and air-to-water heat pumps and up to $25,000 for ground source, against $8,500 and $13,500 at standard rates.
• Mass Save's heat pump page says a higher rebate is available depending on income, but it does not say which income band receives which amount. Confirm eligibility with Mass Save's online income tool or by phone before applying.
• Income bands in Mass Save's table for its enhanced offers, for the 2025 to 2026 heating season, are listed as "Income Eligible Program" then "Enhanced Incentive". One person: up to $51,777, then $51,778 to $69,036. Two people: up to $67,709, then $67,710 to $90,279. Three people: up to $83,641, then $83,642 to $111,522. Four people: up to $99,573, then $99,574 to $132,764. Mass Save also gives limits by ZIP code, so its own tool has the definitive answer.
• Air source heat pumps can also be provided at up to no cost through Mass Save's turnkey service, which starts with a Home Energy Assessment and is subject to cost-effectiveness screening.
• Weatherization comes first: every upgrade recommended in the Home Energy Assessment must be completed before applying, and Mass Save says that work is at no cost for income-verified customers.
• The enhanced rebate applies only where the existing primary heating is oil, propane or electric baseboard (electric resistance). The heat pump must be new.
• Whole-home rebates are limited to individually metered buildings of one to four units, or townhouses. Partial-home rebates in homes heated by oil or propane need an integrated control.
• One rebate per customer account, up to $25,000 in total and never more than the installed cost.
• Equipment must be purchased and installed by December 31, 2026, and the rebate form must be received by February 28, 2027. It must come from a contractor in the Mass Save Heat Pump Installer Network and meet the Qualified Products List (ground source: the ENERGY STAR certified list).
• Cape Light Compact customers are treated differently: Mass Save notes that enhanced rebates there differ from the listed amounts, at 80 percent of the installed cost of qualifying systems.
• Applies to residential electric customers of Cape Light Compact, Eversource, National Grid and Unitil, applying with a residential electric account.
