Conditions worth knowing
- This is a free-upgrade program for income-qualified households, not a rebate. PG&E lists heat pump water heaters, furnaces, lighting and refrigerators, with work done at no charge.
- Furnace and water heater repair or replacement may be available to eligible homeowners if PG&E determines that the existing natural gas units are inoperable or unsafe. Refrigerators must be at least 15 years old to be replaced.
- Household income limits before tax, valid through May 31, 2027: one person $39,900, two $54,100, three $68,300, four $82,500, five $96,700, six $110,900, seven $125,100, eight $139,300, nine $153,500, ten $167,700, and $14,200 more for each additional person.
- Proof of income is not required if you can document participation in a listed program such as CalFresh, Medi-Cal, LIHEAP, SSI, TANF, WIC or the National School Lunch Program.
- The home, whether a house, mobile home or apartment, must be at least five years old. An energy specialist visits to assess the home and decide which improvements qualify.
- PG&E's rebates page does not list a heat pump rebate of its own. It points to Golden State Rebates instant coupons and, through its Energy Action Guide, to the statewide TECH Clean California heat pump incentives and the Switch Is On finder.
