Conditions worth knowing
- LADWP raised its heat pump rebates for equipment purchased and installed on or after November 1, 2025. Older LADWP newsletter pages still circulate with the previous figures of $300 per ton and $1,500 per water heater; the current schedule is the one on the Consumer Rebate Program page.
- Amounts step up with efficiency. Ducted heat pump HVAC pays $1,000 to $1,250 per ton, ductless and multi-split systems pay $1,500 to $2,500 per ton, and heat pump water heaters pay $1,500 to $2,500 per unit depending on tank size and UEF.
- You must be an LADWP residential customer with an active electric meter. Apply only after both buying and installing the equipment, within 12 months of the purchase date, online through your LADWP account or by mail. A final approved building and safety permit is required.
- Heat pump HVAC must meet at least 15.2 SEER2 and 7.7 HSPF2 with an AHRI certificate, and packaged terminal heat pumps are not eligible. Water heaters must be at least 30 gallons with a UEF of 3.3 or higher.
- New construction, additions and accessory dwelling units are not eligible. One water heater rebate per residence, though several units can be paid if applied for at the same time.
- Program funding is limited and paid first come, first served, so a rebate is not guaranteed.
- LADWP's page still mentions a federal tax credit of up to $2,000 for heat pumps. That credit applies only to installations up to December 31, 2025.
